Question by Daniel B: Why do most diets seem to want you to avoid caffeine? Is it fattening?
I’m just curious as to why most of the diets that I have been on in my life have wanted me to avoid caffeine. When I was on the Atkin’s diet some years back it advocated avoiding caffeine. Now that I am trying out the “raw foods” diet, the guidlines to it advocate avoiding caffeine as well. Why is this? Is caffeine fattening? I can find no information to tell me that it is for a fact fattening available online, so I’m turning to you people for an answer. Thanks for the info!

It’s not that caffeine itself is fattening it’s that caffeine affects the body and internal organs which doesn’t help with weight loss

It can make you jittery, increase your heart rate, cause you to have difficulty sleeping, etc., and is often used in diet pills due to it’s appetite suppressant effect. It also has diuretic properties, which will cause you to urinate more frequently and could potentially lead to dehydration if you consumed enough and then went on to work out.
It is a natural product, but if you want to feel full then consuming more fiber at each meal is a good way to do it – and you can do this with the raw diet. Good luck to you.
Caffiene is bad for you – it enhances your mood and speeds up your heart rate and when you come down from that you will most probably crave things such as sugar
caffeine has the same effect as sugar………it provides a quick burst of energy but leaves you tired when it wears out……..plus caffeine provides no good nutritional value……think about it…….no protein….no good carbs…….so any calories you get will be empty ones…….
It’s some kind of knee-jerk reaction to caffeine. The biggest reasn they always give is because it causes dehydration. But I’ve been working on this problem in my basement fitness laboratory. After years of intensive and state-of-the-art reseacrh on the caffeine question, I have arrived at the solution to the dehydration problem. Here are my findings:
DRINK MORE F-ING WATER.
Coffee is fine, don’t worry about it.

Caffeine is actually considered a drug. It is used to keep you “alert”, is a diuretic which means it stimulates the kidneys to pull more fluid from the system and produce more urine and it is also an appetite stimulant contrary to above posting that it suppresses it. Caffeine is sometimes prescribed in conjunction with aspirin for headaches.
