It’s very difficult to even get to convince doctors in Asia to prescribe sleeping pills. Even for insomia, they would ask you to go visit a psychiatrist, since they are the once officially authorized to prescribe antianxiety, hypnotic medicines. A good medicine for insomia would be Stilnox or Zolpidem. Although, certain drugs from the benzodiazepine family, e.g. Diazepam, Alprazolam et al, could also put you to sleep.

Stilnox works better than benzodiazepines and should be taken on an empty stomach, just 15 minutes before bed time. It works very fast. Just make sure you have 7-8 hours time of sleeping, otherwise you will look like a zombie, if you only sleep 3 hours after taking this medicine. It’s a controlled drug, and not all physicians can prescribe this. Most of the time, psychiatrists have this so called “S2″ thing, that permits them to issue such drugs, aside from the prescription. Imagine, even pseudoephedrine requires “S2″, in Philippines. Make sure you don’t have obstructive pulmonary diseases like asthma, since these medicines can worsen your condition. I have asthma myself, and I take occassionally “somnifers”, I never had serious problem. They however could create dependence. So if you could avoid it, it’s better. I use it for regulating my sleep patern after travelling from several time zones, for example. There is another drug called Imovan, that gives you less “hangover” the morning after.
