i own a natural health store and the most effective products I have seen have a combination of sleep ingredients. Some examples are melatonin, valerian root, inositol and 5-htp(for sleeplessness due to anxiety). Each of these are easily found in health food stores and are to be taken 30-45 minutes before bed and are non addictive. Good luck

I went through a time when I was having trouble sleeping. Melatonin helped but you have to watch the dosage. I ended up using 1.5mg before bed and that seemed the best for me. More than that and I woke up drowsy.
It doesn’t work for everyone but it’s worth a try. I got mine at GNC. I don’t use it anymore except when I travel. It seems my sleep pattern worked itself out. I used it every day for a about a month then tapered off of it.
I hope this helps.

I just want to throw my 2 cents worth in about the melatonin. It will possibly make your dreams quite vivid. And if you’re prone to nightmares, it might make them worse. That was the case with me. I couldn’t tolerate the bad nightmares while taking melatonin. However, another friend of mine used it and liked it well enough.

Hi there.:Over-the-counter (OTC) sleep aids

The main ingredient of over-the-counter sleeping pills is an antihistamine. Antihistamines are generally taken for allergies. However, histamine, a chemical messenger in the brain, promotes wakefulness, so antihistamine also has the effect of making you feel very sleepy. Some OTC sleep aids also include a pain reliever.
If you click on the link bellow it will take you to a place where all of your questions will be answered.Best of luck with that,i have had a sleep problem for 30 or so years and know what your going through and have also tried many different sleep remedies, steer clear of melatonin it will mess up your head while you sleep, bad or broken sleep,as it feels like your brain is active while you sleep and will make you feel dreadful the next day.At the moment i just use an over the counter sleep aid an antihistamine. These help some but i`m still only managing 3 hours maybe 4 a night if i`m lucky.I used to really worry for years that i wasn`t getting enough sleep this went on for 10-15 yrs then i thought i have managed thus far without loads of sleep maybe i don`t need as much as i think i do! The antihistamines only help me get to sleep they don`t keep me a sleep.
