Question by lucy g: What exactly does your BMI indicate, and is it something to use as a guideline to weightloss?
When dieting, and what have you, how important is your BMI number, and is a good indication of much weight you need to loose?

BMI is Body Mass Index and it is nothing more than statistics based on averages. BMI is only a small indicator, body fat % and water % are much more important.

BMI does not take into account the three different body types which is a very big flaw in the system.

For example a very muscular people can have a bad BMI while their body fat might be below 15%.

I am not a big fan of BMI, but it is a place to start.

It’s basically a comparison of your weight and height. It’s not always the best number to go by as it doesn’t take into account frame size, bone density, muscle mass, etc. It would be better to go by your body fat percentage instead of BMI.
