Hot liquids are decent, just make sure you don’t drink too much before you go to bed otherwise you wake up to go to the bathroom. Teas are probably the best though. Obviously go with non-decaffeinated teas that advertise some kind of increase in sleep performance. There is one called “Sleepytime” that’ll make you tired pretty quickly, and it tastes so-so. Try a few different things, its different for everyone.
chamomile tea. I’m an insomniac and it works for me. If it doesn’t work try taking two tea bags.
Melatonin
herbal tea like camomille turn tv off and rlax
Eat turkey, it makes you fall asleep I am told.
A mug of hot milk with plenty of honey and ginger (or cinnamon) and half a turkey sandwich with a slice of onion.
Why those things? They are all chock full of typtophan – which your body converts over to other things that will make you sleepy…..(its the same reason people snooze after thanksgiving dinner)
Chamomile or Catnip tea are very relaxing, also Sleepytime Tea by Celestial Seasonings (available in most grocery stores), also Bach Flower Rescue Remedy Sleep, which is a spray you can use under your tongue. or take a nice hot bath with lavender or Lush’s Golden Slumbers bath bomb (a very expensive, but to die for treat)
A yoga session for an hour before bed both relaxes your body and mind and makes you sleep well. Are you getting enough physical exercise during the day to make you tired? Be careful about taking caffeinated drinks later in the day. Eating dinner too close to bed time can make it hard to fall asleep. Are you stressed with things running through your head? Talk it out or write it out in a journal.
Warm milk has l’triptophan in it..It should help you sleep. Also, reduce input prior to sleep…EG: no tv,exercise, etc.
I have a massage client who was struggling with getting to sleep – she had tried three prescription sleep aids not including what she tried OTC and NOTHING was helping her.
What ended up being the most effective was using a lotion blend I made with essential oils.
I used:
equal parts Roman Chamomile, Lavender and Ylang Ylang essential oils.
1/5 Neroli (very precious) essential oils.
The first night she used it she got 8 hours of sleep! First time in more than 6 weeks she’d gotten more than 3 hours in a row. Poor thing.
Anyway – a standard dilution of essential oils in a base (in this case an unscented therapeutic grade lotion) is 15 drops of EO’s to 1 ounce of carrier oil/base lotion.
Apply the lotion to pulse points and neck, etc and then cup the hands loosely over your mouth and nose and breath deeply.

aroma therapy would probably help. make yourself a dream pillow and stuff it full of lavender and mugwart. take a relaxing bath and don’t watch tv before going to bed.
Good sleep hygiene:
The following suggestions can help people with sleep disorders and their families:
Time
* Get up at the same time every day, regardless of what time you fell asleep the night before
* Maintain a consistent bedtime, again regardless of what time you actually fall asleep
* If you do take a nap, do not take one in the late afternoon or evening
Preparation
* Try to get some exposure to natural outdoor daylight every day
* Exercise regularly, but not within four hours of bedtime
* Don’t ingest caffeine or nicotine for at least six hours prior to bedtime
* Don’t drink alcohol for at least four hours prior to bedtime
* Don’t watch television or work on the computer for at least an hour before bedtime
* Perform only relaxing mental and or physical activities before bedtime
* Try to gradually decrease the surrounding light levels as you go through the hours before bedtime
Environment
* Keep your bedroom quiet and cool (extreme temperatures compromise sleep) and use earplugs if your room is noisy
* Keep your bedroom as dark as possible, cover all LEDs, and if you get up during the night do not turn on any bright lights
* Cover your alarm clock so that you cannot keep checking to see what time it is
Try that and then you could enlist the help of professionals (therapists, aromatherapists, homeopathic, sleep disorder specialist, hypnotist) if it persists
You’ve got plenty advises already about potions and pills.
How about creating a relaxing atmosphere in your bedroom ??
Nice, soft, and clean linnen
Nice aroma (do you like aromatherapy stuff?? try to find the best aroma for you)
Nice music
Good lighting
Last but not least, relax your mind also before going to sleep.
Put aside assignments or your problems
Do you pray? coz it helps and do wonders !!
strangely enough boiling water without anything else is the best thing to drink to help your body relax. i personally add some tap water to make sure i don’t burn myself.
sip it slowly, hug the cup, look out at the stars and breath deeply.
you’re body will thank you for the relaxing low-cal drink. it can now relax, be hydrated and not have to worry about digesting any foods or sugars.

Knock Out® is a combination of Melatonin, Valerian and Theanine.
Melatonin is a metabolic hormone made in the pineal gland, retina, and intestines. Melatonin is released into the blood stream by the pineal gland (which resides in the brain) to set your body’s biological clock and initiate sleep.** Darkness stimulates the pineal gland and causes it to produce more melatonin. Day light stops your body’s production of melatonin. Melatonin helps to promote healthy sleep patterns.** Melatonin also protects cells from free radical damage, and directs the release of growth and sex hormones.**
Theanine is believed to be the primary component of green tea that provides a relaxing effect.** Theanine is an amino acid derivative of glutamine. Oral doses of 50 and 200 mg of theanine given to healthy volunteers promoted alpha brain wave production.** Alpha waves are associated with a calm mental state. Theanine helps to induce a state of calm relaxation.**
Valerian is known for its calming effects, and also used as a sleep aid.** GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) is the major inhibitory neurotransmitter (message sender) in the brain. GABA plays a role in regulating sleep-wake cycles, and is involved in initiation of sleep. Melatonin, theanine and Valerian extracts all interact with the GABA receptor.
