Question by Roni: Twenty-somethings getting Botox or other anti-aging treatments?
I am in my late 20′s and I don’t have a wrinkle in sight (knock on wood), is it a bad idea to get botox, microdermabrasion, or Renova as a preventative or just a waste of money? I saw on a news program months ago that some doctors won’t even give these treatments to people who don’t have fine lines or wrinkles. Anyone with personal experience of starting treatments early?

I am in my late 20′s as well and I think it is a terrible idea to do that. It is way too early. Besides why would you want to inject poisons into your face? DO you know how deadly that is???

What do you think? Answer below!

I think you should start with those sunscreen based moisturisers (anti-aging). It’s no point injecting botox as it’ll just make your face all hard and emotionless.

Those treatments don’t come in cheap either. Try some of those olay moisturisers. My mum uses them and she doesn’t have a wrinkle not any sign of one either (shes almost 45). Shes been using those creams for about 8-9 yrs and it seems to prevent wrinkles because people think shes about 35.

If nothing is wrong, there is nothing to fix, right?

Botox is an extremely bad idea, Botulinum toxin is a neurotoxin protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It is one of the most poisonous naturally occurring substances in the world, and it is the most toxic protein. It can result in loss of muscle functions, and weird unwanted facial expressions. If you do not have wrinkles I would not recommend botox.

Microdermabrasion basically takes off a few layers of the skin, similar effect of a chemical peel. These don’t have any serious risks like botox, but can cost a lot, and like you said, probable a waste of money if nothing is wrong. I am in my mid-20′s and have had a series of chemical peels done, not for wrinkles but mainly to remove acne scars….a set of three chemical peels was about $ 600 and burns like hell! It did smooth out my skin, but like yourself I did not have wrinkles/fine lines to start and peeling off layers of skin will not prevent signs of aging.

The best way to stay looking youthful,
#1 -don’t smoke
#2- don’t suntan and wear sunscreen
#3- apply an eye firming cream before bed
#4- moisturize your skin
#5 – drink lots of water (~8 glasses a day) keeps your skin hydrated
#6 – exercise
#7 – don’t eat junk food!

I would highly recommend getting into anti-aging treatments early. But these treatments should be limited to skincare, such as moisturizers, toners, creams, etc. Micrdermabrasion is fabulous, but the botox and restalyne is a bit early.

It is better and easier to Prevent issues with your skin, than is will EVER be to treat and repair.

I began using face creams at 21. Im nearing 30 and my skin is still in amazing condition and not a fine line in sight.

I am in my mid 20′s and have started doing microdermabraisions and acid peels – I have noticed my skin is far less blemished and looks and feels healtheir.

I think if you have the money to do these things then do it. You only get one face – so take care of it.

Well, microdermabrasion and Renova are definitely something I would recommend. I’ve been using Retin A since I was 18 and I do regular skin peels to keep the skin smooth and clear.

I’m not so keen on botox though. It can weaken the muscles in the longterm which can lead to sagging and wrinkles to develop. I prefer facial exercises to keep the facial muscles toned.

I’m 26, I’ve had a fair few treatments and procedures. All I can say is do your research, find the best doctor you can and have realistic expections on what is achieveable.
