I would make an appointment with your doctor. They will ask you questions about your health and daily activities. They may want to do some test to see if you have any type of sleeping disorders or if there is something that is keeping from being able to sleep through out the night. They will direct you from there. Good luck
Goody PM powders are wonderful Just try them. You take 2 powders. By the way the sleeping test the other person mentioned are $ 500 a night for them to monitor your sleeping habits. Before I went there I think I would spring for $ 1.69 for 6 powders.
I’ve had experience with Ambion but I think it’s better if you can sleep with a natural source, have you tried Camimile tea? or trying a naturarl sleep aid, like a glass off wine or a marijuana joint? they arn’t addicting like sleeping pills go to the http://www.Puritans Pride.com webb site the have stuff for sleeping. Good Luck April
I’ve used OTC sleeping pills and they’re useless.
Prescription sleeping pills I used include Ambien, Soma and Placidyl. Most effective for me is Soma.
Yes. I cannot sleep at all unless I take a pm. There is no need to run to a doctor about that. You don’t want to get a psychiatric work up. There are different kinds available that are over the counter.
Sominex is good, and another called Simply Sleep. Ambien is for pysych patients and can cause heart problems. It also makes you feel tired ALL the time and when I took it once it made me sleep so heavy that I peed in the bed. It’s really too strong and you would have to get a perscription from your doctor for it anyway.
No, simply take the sominex, simply sleep, unisom is another one. You can take a Tylenol PM but be advised that it has the ingredient for pain relief. If you have chronic back pains or arthritis or something like that then its ok to take it, otherwise just stick to the sleep induced pills alone. No need to over medicate yourself. They are NOT habit forming. They simply help shut your brain off and relax you enough to sleep. I can’t describe any better than that.
But you shouldn’t listen to criticisms about taking it because lack of sleep causes a LOT more health related problems than taking something to aide you to sleep. Be sure that when you take the first dose, you take half. Usually they come in two pills each dose, so taking one will let you know the effect it will have on you. Off brands are just as good as name brands and a LOT cheaper so get the cheapest one they all have the same ingredients. I usually try to take only one but mainly go on how I feel at bedtime. Some nights I know I am not going to sleep so I take a full dose. Other nights I just take half if I am already tired.
Also if you are in the case where you must get some sleep but you don’t have any sleeping pills on hand, then take a benadryl. It has the same key ingredient that helps make a person sleepy. If you take two its basically the same as a sleep dose but don’t make a habit of it all the time only for emergencies.
And lastly, be sure that your bed is comfortable and that you remove any distractions or things that may be interrupting your rest. Watching TV can wake you up even more so try to stick to low key things, like reading or taking a hot bath before bed to relax. If your muscles are relaxed and you take the sleep pill you will sleep really well. You may feel a bit groggy the next few days but you will get used to it and then you will know when the right time is to take one or two pills. Hope you get some sleep soon…
melatonin
Anything that requires a prescription could cause side effects during the day making you feel worse. Ambien is the one that has the most reports of problems and strange behaviors. Keep in mind that sleeping pills can become addictive depending which ones you use. I took Halcion years ago, and the doctor said it does not leave you with a drowsy feeling. It didn’t work for me, but just about anything I take at night keeps me awake. The suggestions from Somebody… were pretty good. You can try some other over the counter remedies if you want. Melatonin, in particular because it is found in the body and can be obtained over the counter. It might just be a lack of melatonin in your system, so taking a supplement might help. Exercising a few hours before you go to bed might help. Are you under any added stress from work or other personal issues that might be affecting your sleep habits? It could be depression as well. Personally because I hate going to the doctor, I would probably try some of the over the counter remedies first to see if they help prior to seeing a doctor. If it continues long term, definitely see your doctor to rule out any other medical problems.
