they say if you put the leaves or bark of the sweetbay magnolia and inhale it, it acts as a mild hallucinogen. does anyone know more about this? is it in any way dangerous? can it be made into tea and used the same way?

You can place the leaves or bark in cupped hands over the nose and inhale it, but it probably wouldn’t be very effective as a tea. It is a very mild hallucinogen, so it is not particularly dangerous. However, I don’t have any information on the legality of this, so keep that in mind.
