Question by Hawai’i: No sleep b/c of nerves and anxious, pills don’t work?
When i have trouble sleeping there is nothing i can really do. I tried over the counter sleeping pills like tylenol pm or something similiar and they actually make me more anxious and more nervous. When im really upset i get those two feelings and my stomach hurts. The pills simply make it worse. What else can i try to help with sleep in this case?

Over the counter sleeping pills most commonly contain benadryl as the sleep agent and it can increase your symptoms. (an adverse effect). My suggestion to you is that you follow up with your family doctor to see about getting a prescribed sleep med. and also checking to find out if you have something known as gerd (fancy name for acid reflux).

Here are some things you can try. It is most effective if I do all of them, but see if any work for you:
*Exercise for about 30 minutes a few hours before you want to go to bed. Take a brisk walk, jog, or anything you like. It will improve your circulation, release toxins/ free radicals in your system, and reduce your anxiety.
*Stop consuming any caffeinated beverages and food around six hours (depending on individual) before you intend to go to sleep.
*I drink some hot herbal tea which contains no caffeine at all (decaffeinated coffee still contains low levels of caffeine).
*Take a warm bath or shower right before you want to sleep. It is relaxing and improves your circulation.
*Read a boring book (certain non-fiction books work good for me), soft music, or if you like to leave the TV on put in a happy movie you have seen so many times you already know what is going to happen.
No-one teaches us to sleep properly when we are young and thats the problem.
Sleeping is all to do with the brain, and sometimes people brains need retraining to go into “deep sleep” so you feel like you haven’t been awake all night.
