Question by Seraph: Is it ok to take sleeping pills if you have heart palpitations?
Its hard for me to sleep, when ever I laydown my heart beats very slowly as if its going to stop beating. People keep telling its just in my head and that im having a panic attack. If I take sleeping pills will it make things worse?

It all depends on the cause.

If it is a biophysical cause then, yes, the sleeping pills (being CNS depressants) could contribute to the lowered heart rate.

However, if it is anxiety causing the rhythm and being hyperaware of the situation it wouldn’t cause any harm.

If you think your heart is beating abnormally –first you need to get into see a doctor. Do an EKG, and perhaps a Tilt table test.

If you’ve been to the doctor and all was fine, or just won’t go.. then invest in a good electronic heart-rate monitor. (One of the higher end models at a CVS/Walgreens/Walmart) would be fine.

Then you can measure your pulse accurately, and blood pressure. Keep track of your vitals, and examine how they change (if) they change when laying, sitting, and standing.
