Question by : How to treat sore Bulldog nose wrinkle?
My 6 month old English Bulldog has a very deep set nose wrinkle and I have noticed that it’s quite brown/red in colour with a little bit of what you’d call ‘scabby’ stuff. I’ve only had my pup a week so I’m still trying to learn all the best tips and tricks for keeping my puppy as healthy as possible. I know Bulldogs require special attention because they are prone to so many different problems. She did have a very dry nose and Vaseline seems to have worked a treat. As has bathing her wrinkles everyday and drying them properly – They are looking much better. Wiping her eyes everyday has also helped tremendously with eye bogies! ..One problem I still have though is the deep nose wrinkle which still looks very sore and she seems to get a bit irritated when I go near it. Obviously I will seek vets advice and treatment if it is really necessary but I was wondering if there are any home remedies I could try first. Some have just said to keep bathing and drying it. Some have said Sudocreme, and others Vaseline. However, I’m worried that if it is infected that Vaseline will act as a barrier and block it in. Will Sudocreme do this too? If it’s not too much to ask I’d like some suggestions as well as reasons why they help. I don’t want to be messing her around by putting all different sorts of treatments on her, I just want the best one to get it cleared asap! Thankyou!:D
Also, how long should I expect to wait before seeing any improvements?

it could be irritation from itself.
I have an older 12 year old overweight female pitbull that has a deep wrinkle at the base of her tail, sometimes it gets rubbed and chaffed and irritatied. sometimes I take a Qtip with witchhazel on it or peroxide and wipe the area to help clean and dry it out to heal. after a few days it clears up.

ive had full blooded pitbull puppies that will sometimes get rough rubbed areas from their wrinkles until they grow out of them. Its quite common. though, i know its a different breed, they generally grow out of it by the time they are about 3 months old at the latest. sometimes with more wrinkly breeds like sharpeis it takes longer, IF it is the skin rubbing against itself thats the issue.

I would ask the people you got the puppy from as well for history if they seen it before, as well as your vet.

Sounds like a yeast infection. Even with daily cleaning and drying of wrinkles, it can happen. Corn starch can help with moisture in the folds.

Sorry, but you’ll need to make a trip to the vet for some kind of anti-fungal.

Call up your Vet and ask him if you can pick a prescription for Animax Ointment. It is also used to treat ear infections, but works WONDERS for the Bulldog’s skin folds. When I use to have my Bulldog, this is what I used and there was a GREAT improvement in ONE day. It is NOT an expensive script.

The best thing to do is ask for the right products from your vet, but there are somethings you can buy at a pet store. But I would suggest you take her to the vet first and make sure she has not gotten a skin infection in those wrinkles, as that is one of the main problems we see in bulldogs and pugs! You are correct in keeping it clean and dry, but I would not use vaseline or anything else, because you are right, it can trap harmful bacteria in the creases and further make it worse. If it is infected and she does not start antibiotics, it can become a very painful hot spot, which will require much more treatment if you had taken her to see the vet sooner, rather than later. They can also recommend which wipes and powders to use, and which to stay away from that may cause further damage. Hope this helped!

I have a 2 year old English Bulldog and when he was just a baby, my mom used cornstarch on and inside his nose wrinkle. I know those things are a pain to keep clean and protected, but it should work very well.
