My brother has been very depressed lately and I found a bottle of sleeping pills in his room. Is it possible to kill yourself with over the counter stuff like tylenol pm?

You can. Talk to him, and see if he will “open up” to you to tell you the problem(s) he’s facing. If he won’t, see if he will talk to a doctor or clergyman/ woman.

Unfortunately, yes. However, in the case of Tylenol pm he is more likely to survive with serious and permanent kidney problems.
If you feel he is suicidal you should get him some help immediately. Sometimes people do not listen in these cases so keep talking until someone does

It is the tylenol more than the sleep ingredients you need to worry about.
It is possible, so you should encourage him to see a doctor. Tylenol pm is a sedative combined with a pain killer. If the sedative isn’t deadly to him, the pain killer part can be. An overdose could destroy his liver and also cause significant brain damage.
Yes b/c to much of it will over load your liver and it will shut down. My A&P teach says tylenol is the number one suicide drug in London. It would take a lot though like a whole bottel.
the person above me is right….i overdosed on prescription sleep pills (trying to kill myself) and luckily someone found me….otherwise the doctors told me i would have died. you really should get your brother soem help….why dont you talk to your parents and suggest the idea of taking him to a hospital or a therapist??? wether the pills could kill him or not he needs help….and if he’s feeling suicidal he will try…it’s only a matter of time!

Yes. I agree with one of the previous answers with regards to Tylenol PM. The sedative properties are less lethal than the Tylenol itself. Death by Tylenol is a particularly lengthy process. Tylenol itself will not (initially) kill you (but you will feel particularly awful). You will go into liver failure, and greatly suffer until you die. Once you go into liver failure (and you live) you will have to be on dialysis because the only remedy is a transplant.
Yes he can, whether by damaging his insides or taking so many and deliberately passing out in the bath so he will drown or something horrible like that. Definitely step up and help him.
