Question by Carter: Can trazadone be used as a sleeping aid as needed?
I visited my doctor because I’ve been having trouble sleeping. He prescribed me trazadone to use as a sleep aid, and instructed me to take it when necessary for sleeping.
However, after doing some research, it seems as if trazadone is usually taken every day (to treat ailments such as anxiety, which I do not have). So, is my doctor misinformed, or can trazadone indeed be taken only when needed, strictly as a sleep aid?
Thanks!

Trazadone can be taken for sleep, and that is what it is prescribed for most often. It’s actually an anti-depressant, but it has such a strong sedative effect that taking it everyday can make it hard for the person to even function. That’s why it is most often used as a sleep aid. I assure you that your doctor knows what he is doing.
