I have used treadmills and other exercise equipment that counts calories burnt. Based upon this I can tell you that exercise burns calories very slowly. There are a lot of benefits to exercise, but weight loss doesn’t seem to be one of them.

Running is always a good thing for weightloss and becoming fit, as long as your not so overweight it could hurt your heart or your joints. Running does cause stress on your body if you are carrying too much weight.
Slow jogging is perfect. You don’t need to sprint o become fit and healthy. You don’t want to overwork yourself, expecially if you are running for an hour.
If you are knew to this I suggest you run for only 30min a few times a week and work yourself up.
