Question by Rachel: How long will it take to lose 10 lbs with just dieting?
I’m going to try to make time to go to the gym 4-5 times a week, but it’s difficult in college. I really just want to lose 10 or 15 pounds and I’m wondering how long it would take to do that with just dieting.
I try to take in about 1000 to 1400 calories a day when I’m watching what I eat. How long will this take?

Don’t worry about calories. Eat only raw, fresh fruits and vegetables and drink only clean water. You’ll lose 10-15 pounds in about 4-6 weeks.
You should be eating 1500 calories. Any less can make it harder to lose the weight.
And if you do that without exercising you should lose 10 pounds in about 10 weeks. With the exercise it will take less time I bet.
If you follow the RDA’s rules, 10 weeks. to lose a pound a week, calculate your BMR (basal metabolism rate), which can be done online (Google BMR calculator). this tells you how many calories you need daily to keep your weight where it is. If you take off 500 calories a day, you will lose a pound a week. Exercise can take off another pound a week depending on how hard and how long you do it. walking or running a mile will each burn about 100 calories, or about 0.46 oz. The RDA doesn’t recommend losing or gaining more than 2 lbs a week because it can cause eating disorders.
Well, it definitely depends on the diet and you so there really isn’t a simple answer to that question. Check out some of the different safe diets out there before doing anything.
