Question by wdup181: How do you get aids? By sleeping with too many people.?
Maybe this is a dumb question but does the other person have to have aids to get it? Or is it just like a disease you get if you do to much of something kinda like staying in the sun and getting skin cancer? I’m 12 so no mean answers

You can get AIDS from sleeping with one person, one time. You can get AIDS even if you never had sex ever before and the person you sleep with is your spouse. But they have to carry the disease. If they are HIV negative, then you won’t get HIV/AIDS from that person. The more people you sleep with, the more likelihood that you will eventually contract the disease. If you insist on condoms every time, and you never have sex without one no matter what, then you are very much unlikely to ever have to worry about AIDS. You should only have sex unprotected with a person that you know for a fact has been tested for STDs and whom you don’t mind having a child with.

First of all, you can’t AIDS (the person that answered before me kept saying AIDS as though it’s actually the thing that what happens first.. definitely NOT the correct information)… no no no, you get HIV that then develops into AIDS eventually.

HIV is spread through the following:
Sexual intercourse
Direct contact with infected blood (ie through drug needles)
From an infected mother to her unborn child

And yes, if you are having relations with anyone of sex or sharing drugs the other person must have the disease to be able to pass to you.

Although it seems easy to eventually get the disease, HIV outside the body dies within minutes, except with needles (syringes) due to the fact that the blood is isolated from oxygen. The disease is live-threatening and an epidemic, but completely unable to survive well outside the body.

Not trying to give mean answer at all, it’s great that you’re asking. Better to know what HIV is and make sure you protect yourself. Congrats on wanting to know about it! I’m sure your health class will eventually discuss this but it’s a wonder why they don’t teach this at a younger age than 12… Typical.

If you’re going to have sex make sure you always use protection :) It’s also best to avoid syringes for drugs unless you are bringing your own and NEVER share.

you catch HIV from other people that have HIV. HIV is the same thing as AIDS, but HIV just turns into AIDS after youve had it for awhile. Think of it as like HIV is stage one, and AIDS is stage two. They are both incurable.

The ONLY ways that you can catch HIV or AIDS from someone is through Semen, Vaginal fluids, Blood, and Breastmilk. You can NOT catch HIV or AIDS from someone pee, poop, boogers, tears, spit, or hugs.
