Question by gracieg: Has anyone ever weaned off sleeping pills to sleep normally without them?
If so how’d you do it? I can stay up for days without taking something to sleep. (Yeah literally) So I end up taking something to make me sleep. Generally I still only sleep 5 hours. I can take Ambien CR and never doze. I get in this circle of fear where if I don’t take something I won’t sleep so I take something without trying to go to sleep but when I DON’T take something I sleep light, dream way too much and wake up so much it makes me tired in the morning. Help????

Try breathing exercise and meditation.Try this simple exercise first.Breath in as slow and deep as possible and exhale slowly you can feel the warmth while exhalin,do this 30 times before going to sleep you should have a pleasant night sleep. It has worked for me.
All the best.

You could try a natural alternative. It sounds like you’ve built a mental or physical dependency on them. You could try reducing your dose, but it’s always best to seek professional medical advice before you decide to do anything.
First and foremost, you need to develop a healthy sleep routine. You can easily research this Online, but it usually requires an individual to exercise regularly, go to bed and wake up at the same times everyday (even weekends), reduce caffeine intake, do not drink or consume any stimulants four hours before bed, learn several relaxation techniques, and stop using electronics (televisions and computers) in the bed room.
You CANNOT get off sleeping pills until you set-up a healthy sleep routine.
You can, most likely, stop taking Ambien CR cold turkey, but you should consult your doctor about your desire to get off sleeping medication. He can set-up a weaning plan and a healthy sleep routine with you. This is your safest bet.
Most likely, the doctor will suggest reducing the dosage by cutting pills in half or skipping the medications some nights until you no longer need the pills to sleep.
Please consult the links I have given as sources below. They will help you understand what is needed to get off sleeping medication.
its sounds like your body just needs 5 hours a night. i would recommend not taking anything if you sleep that little and still feel good the next day.
you may be a light sleeper, that’s normal. try not relying on sleeping pills and taking them before you give your body a chance to sleep. because it sounds like your setting yourself up to be dependent on them.
