Question by Steph: Can going on diets where you starve yourself lead to anorexia?
Im doing a project on anorexia and I need to find out if going on diets where you starve yourself will lead you to develop anorexia. Thanks in advance and if you know anything else about anorexia please share.

Anorexia is when you simply do not eat or eat very little. Bulimia is when you vomit after eating.
You don’t cause yourself to develop either problem but I would imagine that going on such a diet could trigger the feelings that lead to having those problems. Both can sprout from a poor self-image and outside influence. It’s different for everyone.

I’m not sure I understand or you understand. It all depends on the reason. You wanna get really really thin (or always think you are too fat allthough you might be already underweight )and go on a starve-yourself diet= anorexia. If you want to loose a bit of weight an go on such a diet= not anorexia just a bad choice. BUT starting a starving diet will make you an anorexic?!…don’t know if there are studies about that. But i would say no. Anorexia is about perception. How you think you look. Starvation will bring some nasty effects like lack of concentration or focus, getting tired really fast(mentally i mean) but from this to altering your self-perception…i think it’s a long way
