Believe it or not, warm milk is a great sleep inducer. Don’t boil it, just warm it until there are teeny bubbles around the edge.

Warm milk has tryptophan in it. That’s the same thing that’s in turkey that makes you sleepy after Thanksgiving dinner. It’s also the primary ingredient in a medication called amitryptoline which is used for depression and sleep aid. Just drink a mug of warm milk at bedtime, turn off and distractions (lights, radio, tv,etc.) relax and drift away!

The only OTC thing I know of is Tylenol PM or one of those kinds of things. The active ingredient in that is Benadryl (diphenhydramine). So you can also just take plain benadryl if you don’t need tylenol.

I hope this helps.

ODC drugs used for allergy contain antihistamine that can be used for sleep.
